Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about Islamic dream interpretation, AI usage, privacy, and how to use the Ahlamy website.

Islamic Dream Interpretation

What is Islamic dream interpretation?
Islamic dream interpretation (ta'bir al-ru'ya) is a religious discipline with roots in the Quran and the Prophetic Sunnah. The Imam Ibn Sirin (d. 728 CE) systematized its principles in his famous work. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'A good dream is one of the forty-six parts of prophethood.'
What is the difference between a ru'ya and a hulm?
A ru'ya (vision) is a good, glad-tiding dream from Allah. A hulm is a disturbing dream attributed to the devil. The Prophet (PBUH) said: 'A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from the devil.' When you see something unpleasant, seek refuge with Allah and do not share it.
Does every dream need interpretation?
No. Dreams are of three types: a righteous vision (ru'ya) from Allah; a disturbing dream (hulm) from the devil; and inner thoughts (hadith al-nafs), which are reflections of daily concerns. Only the first type is worth seeking interpretation for.
Who are the major scholars of Islamic dream interpretation?
The most prominent scholars are: Imam Ibn Sirin (the greatest), Imam Al-Nabulsi (Abd al-Ghani al-Nabulsi), Ibn Shahin, and Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah. Our website's interpretations draw primarily from these classical authorities.
Is dream interpretation forbidden in Islam?
No, it is not. Interpretation based on religious knowledge is permitted and even commendable. What is forbidden is claiming knowledge of the unseen or interpreting without proper scholarship. Ahlamy follows the scholarly Islamic methodology and always clarifies that interpretations are scholarly opinions, not divine certainty.
What is the best time for a true vision?
The pre-dawn hours (sahar) yield the truest visions. Performing ablution before sleep, reciting sleep supplications, and maintaining piety all contribute to receiving truthful dreams.

AI & Technology

How does the AI work on Ahlamy?
The AI acts as an assistant that applies the methodology of classical Islamic interpretation books to your dream. It analyzes the text, references scholarly principles from Ibn Sirin and others, and generates a personalized interpretation. The AI does not issue religious rulings or claim knowledge of the unseen.
How accurate is the AI interpretation?
Interpretations are based on scholarly principles but are scholarly opinions, not certainties. AI can make mistakes, and dreams can carry multiple valid meanings. We recommend treating interpretations as a starting point for reflection, not as a definitive religious ruling.
Is my dream text stored?
Your dream text is sent for immediate AI processing and is not stored permanently linked to your identity. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Can AI replace a specialized Islamic scholar?
No. AI is a convenient assistant for initial understanding. For significant, recurring, or decision-influencing dreams, we strongly recommend consulting a qualified Islamic scholar.
